Lando Norris retained top spot in FP3 of F1 Austrian GP from teammate Oscar Piastri, with Max Verstappen in third.
It was sunny in FP3 where McLaren’s Lando Norris retained the top spot in F1 Austrian GP at Red Bull Ring after his 1m04.324s lap, as he led teammate Oscar Piastri by a goodish margin. But both had their moments during the session at separate corners, with the Australian suffering a bigger one.
He ran on the gravel at the sides but was unscathed. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was third after spending much of the session undertaking long run on the hard compound. He had his own moment along with the Ferrari pair of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who ended up fourth and fifth.
Both had multiple moments in the session, but Verstappen had a 360 degrees spin in the final corner which was a repeat of what Visa Cash App RB’s Isack Hadjar had midway in the session. Mercedes’ George Russell was sixth from teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who had a moment too.
Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll continued his Top 10 run in eighth from Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda, who had own spin at Turn 6 towards the end. The Top 10 was rounded out by Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto, with Visa Cash App RB’s Liam Lawson in a good place in 11th from Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso.
Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg was 13th ahead of first of Williams of Alexander Albon, who finished within a second of Norris’ time. He led teammate Carlos Sainz, who was just over 1s. Haas’ Oliver Bearman was 16th from Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, with the other Haas of Esteban Ocon in 18th.
Alpine’s Franco Colapinto was 19th after multiple moments, which included a spin at Turn 3 right at the end of the session. Hadjar ended up 20th on the medium tyre after his soft tyre run was hampered by the 360 degrees spin he had in the final corner.
