Last Saturday, Team Penske had a great night at Richmond Raceway, with Joey Logano crossing the finish line in first place and Austin Cindric achieving a notable third place.
Cindric needed a strong performance after a disappointing 29th place in Iowa and without having secured a top-ten position since May. With car number 2 sitting in a precarious 16th place in points, the team could not afford any mistakes and, despite the difficulties, Cindric and his crew responded with a great result.
After the race, Cindric commented: ‘This has been the punch this team needed. The past weeks, and really the last months, have been hard work for us. We have suffered in silence and had successes quietly. Today has been a great way to remind ourselves who we are and to have a great race.’
Additionally, Cindric emphasized the importance of teamwork, highlighting the support from Logano and Ryan Blaney: ‘I couldn’t ask for better teammates. It’s really exciting to work with them and learn from them. This is a track where Joey Logano could finish in the top 5 even with my rental car. It’s a place I study a lot.’
His third place in the race allows him to jump to 15th place in the points standings, moving ahead of Shane van Gisbergen and putting car number 97 in a better position as the Chase approaches.
Now, the NASCAR competition moves to New Hampshire next weekend, with the fight for qualifying still very tight.
