Aston Martin sticks with generic note amid fresh Newey rumours

Aston Martin has had to pass on a generic statement regarding rumours about Adrian Newey joining its F1 team.

With the summer break on, Italian publication Autosprint dropped a bombshell about Aston Martin having signed design guru Newey post the end of his Red Bull tenure. The deal of about 100 million dollars for four years is to be announced in September.

Reports circulated of Newey visiting the Aston Martin headquarters in Silverstone and the team at that time played down the visit as a generic one. With the news spreading of the Brit signing a new deal, the F1 outfit has said the same in a generic statement.

“The Aston Martin Aramco F1 team is a very appealing project with Lawrence Stroll’s vision, a state-of-the-art new Technology Campus and exciting partnerships with Aramco and Honda,” the team said to Planet F1. “Many high-profile individuals across all areas of the team are linked to the project but we don’t have anything to announce.”

Aston Martin is gearing up to become a works outfit from 2026 F1 season onward when Honda will switch over to become their power unit partner. Their tenure with Red Bull and Visa Cash App RB ends in 2025, with the team getting its own Powertrains with Ford.

Stroll has made some big hiring off-late, whether it is Dan Fallows or Bob Bell or Luca Furbatto and or the latest signing of Andy Cowell. Even though the F1 team’s performances on track is not getting the desired result, they are not stopping off it.

Both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll are already set to continue with fresh contracts, but interestingly Autosprint notes that Aston Martin is pushing to get the services of Max Verstappen from 2026 onward – this comes after several attempts from Mercedes.

As for Newey, Aston Martin is not the only one F1 team where reports have linked him with. He was readily linked to the likes of Ferrari, immediately when it was announced that he will leave Red Bull. Outside that, Williams and McLaren were the other names on the list.
