McLaren and Red Bull have decided to take Pierre Gasly’s case to the FIA Appeals Tribunal after the Monaco Grand Prix stewards annulled the penalties imposed on the Alpine driver.
Last Friday, the FIA stewards reinstated Gasly on the podium after ratifying two five-second penalties for speeding violations, which were deemed to have been incorrectly applied due to an error in measuring speeds at the Monaco pit lane.
This error affected not only Gasly but also four other drivers who had also been sanctioned. The decision has raised concerns among the affected teams, such as McLaren and Red Bull, who expressed their intention to appeal immediately after the verdict.
McLaren has confirmed that it has submitted an official notice of appeal, emphasizing that this case raises critical issues regarding sporting fairness, regulatory consistency, and competition integrity.
McLaren’s communication highlights that all teams followed the rigorous regulations during the Grand Prix weekend. “The subsequent removal of the penalties creates an inequitable situation in the competition,” the text states.
For its part, Red Bull has not yet commented on its appeal, but it is understood that they have also initiated the process after Isack Hadjar lost his spot on the podium in favor of Gasly.
Additionally, Mercedes has announced that it will also submit its own request to review the decision regarding Gasly, although it is unclear at this time if it will be admissible.
