Anthony Alfredo says his role as Alex Bowman’s substitute focuses on the team

Anthony Alfredo will take on an important role in the NASCAR Cup Series this weekend, substituting for Alex Bowman in the race at Phoenix Raceway. Alfredo acknowledges that, while it is a unique opportunity, his main focus is the well-being of the team and not his own aspirations.

Bowman was forced to leave the car at Circuit of the Americas due to vertigo, at which point Alfredo, who is also a Chevrolet simulator driver, received the call to compete. His priority, he asserts, is to execute his tasks well and assist the Hendrick Motorsports team.

In a press conference, Alfredo commented that he doesn’t want to put pressure on himself or see this situation as a personal audition. “It’s not about that, but about doing the right job for the team,” he stated. He is aware that having the chance to race in such a well-prepared car is a privilege, but the most important thing is to meet his team’s expectations.

Regarding his future with the Hendrick team, Alfredo stated that he has no expectations for a long-term future, while acknowledging the importance of the current opportunity. For him, it is a moment to fully commit to the race and then look ahead.

Alfredo knows that Bowman’s absence is unfortunate and has expressed his solidarity with his teammate. “I don’t feel excited about having to substitute for someone who can’t compete soon,” Alfredo said, emphasizing that this is not how he wants to debut in a big team.

As he prepares for the race, Alfredo remains optimistic about his ability to adapt to the circumstances. He has a series of previous experiences with older generation vehicles, and while he acknowledges that the competition is different from the simulator, he feels ready to face the challenge of racing in a new environment.
