Marc Marquez managed to get the MotoGP pole position in the Grand Prix of Italy once again. Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Iannone will share the front row with him.
The number is six. The pole position at Mugello was the sixth consecutive pole for Marc Marquez -1’47 .270- who has mastered all the qualifying sessions so far. The current World Champion is still unstoppable despite the distance with his rivals has not been as big as in previous qualifying sessions.
No surprises in Q1. The favorites to make it to the second session, Alvaro Bautista and Aleix Espargaro, occupied the first two places that gave access to the fight for the pole. Although it was not easy for them since Yonny Hernandez was very strong in the session and even managed to lead the timesheets, but the Colombian rider only got the third place. Scott Redding also showed a good pace, but he was fourth.
Jorge Lorenzo was the first to lead the Q2, but his time was beaten by Marc Marquez, who was just 12 thousandths faster. Andrea Iannone was placed between the two Spaniards in second place. Dani Pedrosa had a poor first lap, and after his second one he was up to sixth. Local hero Valentino Rossi was fifth, just behind Pol Espargaro.
With six minutes to go, the riders began their second and final stint to set a good time that would put them as forward as possible on the grid tomorrow. Lorenzo was unable to improve his position Iannone couldn’t improve Marquez’s time, so the championship leader added another pole to his records. Iannone was second –two tenths slower than Marquez–, followed by Lorenzo in third. Pedrosa could finally climb to fourth place. Pol Espargaró closed the top 5. Rossi was tenth.
