Analysis of the BoP of the WEC 2025: Aston Martin

The competition in the Hypercar category remains a challenge for Aston Martin, as indicated by the analysis of the Balance of Performance (BoP) for the WEC 2025. In its first season, the Aston Martin Valkyrie has shown remarkable progress, moving from being one of the last teams to compete for points to demonstrating a constant improvement throughout the year.

Adam Carter, head of motorsport at Aston Martin, expressed satisfaction with the results achieved, highlighting that the Valkyrie recently earned its first points at Fuji Speedway. The trajectory of the team, The Heart of Racing (THOR), has been an example of overcoming challenges, with a clear advancement from the early races to the end of the season.

Despite its initial disadvantage in the first two races, the Valkyrie benefited from a BoP system that facilitated its adaptation. By the time of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Aston Martin had achieved stability and reliability, which was crucial for the vehicle’s development.

Le Mans represented a turning point for the team, with #009 overtaking a Toyota and two Peugeot 9X8 in qualifying times. However, the lack of top speed was a significant obstacle during the race.

As the season progressed, the BoP showed a trend toward improving the power-to-weight ratio of the Valkyrie. With an ideal ratio of 1.981 kg/kW at the end of the season, Aston Martin positioned itself better compared to the competition. However, it is clear that there is a significant performance gap between the different vehicles in the category.

One of the objectives for the next season will be to optimize tire usage, as the team faces new challenges in this area. Carter pointed out that, despite the achievements, the team still has a long way to go to match the competition, and the year 2026 promises to be a new challenge.
