Alpine has teamed up with Eni to be its energy and fuel supplier from 2025 F1 season onward, parting ways with Castrol and bp in the process.
There were murmurs already during the course of 2024 F1 season about a partition between Alpine and Castrol/bp, but there was no official word – even at the onset of the year 2025. But with a month left for the season to start, the confirmation has come through from the French manufacturer.
As a result, Castrol/bp are no longer suppliers of Alpine, who have inked a deal with Eni, to be its energy and fuel supplier from 2025 onward in a multi-year agreement. The Italian company makes a return to the Enstone-based outfit since its Benetton days – it is its first foray in F1 in the hybrid era.
Eni joins the likes of Petronas, Shell, Castrol/bp, ExxonMobil and Gulf Oil to supply fuel in F1 in the current hybrid era. With the sport moving towards 100% sustainable fuel, it is a good step for oil companies to showcase its products which can be used commercially.
The deal with Eni goes beyond the traditional fuel supply. On the larger end with Renault Group, the company will work in tandem for business development across various sectors, which includes electric mobility infrastructure, smart mobility services and energy supply.
As part of the deal, Renault has acquired Eni’s car sharing service, Enjoy. “The beauty of automotive is that it’s a team sport,” said Luca de Meo. “This has never been more true, as we have to reinvent mobility. When it comes to developing innovative solutions, nothing can beat the combined expertise and skills of great companies.
“That’s why I’m so thrilled about this partnership we are striking with Eni, in F1 and also to explore new opportunities for shared and efficient mobility. Together, we have the potential to push boundaries.”
At the same time, Claudio Descalzi, added: “Today we have signed a significant agreement allowing Eni and Renault Group to combine the industrial standing and technological leadership that the two companies represent in their respective sectors with the aim of opening new paths of development in areas fundamental to sustainable transport.
“The introduction of bio-gasoline testing through BWT Alpine Formula One Team is equally important as it reflects F1’s continuous pursuit of absolute technological excellence in engine development and performance.”
And Flavio Briatore, stated: “It is with immense pride that we welcome Eni back to Formula One with BWT Alpine Formula One Team. Eni formed a great part of our history at this team and has also, in the past, been an important partner in Formula One.
“We share common goals and objectives, especially in regard to energy efficiency, sustainability, and future bio-gasoline products. To have them back on board at BWT Alpine Formula One Team is great and we look forward to doing many exciting things together in future both on and off the track.”
