AlphaTauri is banking on the upcoming updates to make its return to the F1 midfield fight after losing out hugely in the past few races.
The team hasn’t scored a point in the last three F1 rounds and have since dropped to eighth in the standings with 27 points. Although Haas is not far up with a difference of seven points, but despite no updates from their end, they have looked a touch better.
Double points in the last two events has helped Haas whereas AlphaTauri’s none has hurt them. They are another team to have not updated their car in the last few races and are hoping to bring one in French GP which they reckon should change their fortunes.
“We can just forget everything about Austria because we are dead slow,” said Gasly. “We were probably the slowest car on track at the moment, and it’s a big shame to see we’re fighting for the last positions. I think we need a big reset and upgrades on the cars as fast as possible.
“I think because we haven’t had any upgrades on the car for quite a long time now and we start to feel it, so yes, clearly not enjoyable and I really, really hope we can get these new parts as fast as possible. Hopefully the new package allows us to move forward and be competitive in the midfield again,” summed up the AlphaTauri driver.
The technical chief of AlphaTauri, Jody Egginton concurred with Gasly on the matter: “We’ve been on the backfoot in all of Austria and unfortunately came away with nothing. We’ve got a lot to review back at base. Now our focus is to get our updates to the car ready for the French Grand Prix and get ourselves back in to the midfield fight.”
