Fernando Alonso says the upcoming wind tunnel will be a gamechanger for Aston Martin, as he feels relaxed despite the drop in overall performance of the F1 team.

It hasn’t been a fairytale run for Aston Martin in the last two seasons. Having started off well with Alonso, the performance dropped after few wrong decisions. While they have had their struggles on track, they have been on a hiring spree off-track to bolster its F1 team.

Amid the big shot signings from the likes of Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes, arguably their biggest coup was signing Adrian Newey as its technical head. Although his influence wouldn’t be seen as much in 2025, but all eyes will be on the 2026 F1 regulation and what Aston Martin can do then.

Alonso has a contract, but he can’t continue forever. He is looking out for his 33rd career win and a third F1 title. But for now, he is relaxed by the situation despite the performance drop. Outside the hiring, he sees Aston Martin’s wind tunnel as a gamechanger in their quest for world championship.

“We cannot predict the future, but as I said before, I think we have quite good things coming in the next few months in the team, especially the wind tunnel,” said Alonso to media. “I would say that is a gamechanger for us. We are using now Mercedes wind tunnel and obviously limited on time, limited when in the week they allowed us to go there and things.

“So I think to have our own wind tunnel and use wisely during the week, in the moments that are needed, I think that will be a huge step forward. And I think the factory as well, you know, we cannot forget Aston Martin two years ago, still on a very small building from Racing Point, Force India. And now, we double the personnel and we have this new facility.

“So, you know, step by step, we have all to have that first race win and hopefully fighting for championships in the future. I’m aware that this takes time and I don’t have that time in a way. So, but, you know, I’m relaxed and I’m enjoying the journey,” summed up Alonso.
