Fernando Alonso admits it will be difficult for Aston Martin to score points in F1 2025, and his positivity comes from regulations change in 2026.
It is not often that Alonso has gone through five F1 races and hasn’t managed to score in any of them, especially when his Aston Martin teammate Lance Stroll has done so. Even though the car doesn’t have the legs to score at the moment, the Canadian has managed to outscore the Spaniard.
Seeing the competition and the issues they have with the car, Alonso doesn’t think that they can score points in 2025 – at least not without any help like other cars crashing out or suffering problems. The Spaniard is positive, but it was heartbreaking to end up 11th in Saudi Arabia.
“I hope there is stuff coming which will change the situation as at the moment, we are not where we want to be,” said Alonso to media. “Japan and Saudi Arabia was heartbreaking to be P11 and with the race we did, to not score any points or have any luck is sad, but we will keep pushing.
“When you are fighting for the podium, we will give 100%, and when we are fighting for P12 or P11, we will still give 100%, so that is what we will continue to do in the next races and all through this year. It is going to be difficult to score any points, but we will keep trying.”
Despite this situation, Alonso has been positive and philosophical about things with Aston Martin. He is because of the regulation change happening in 2026. The team has Adrian Newey in their side and the Spaniard is hoping that they can get things right with their car next year.
“Because next year, there is a new regulation,” said Alonso. “There is nothing we can do now, but next year is a complete reset, and we have now great people in the team working on next year’s car. So the trust is maximum on the new management and new people, and the team is getting ready for that moment. If the regulations were stable, and next year we have the same cars as now, I think it would be tougher to digest.”
