Fernando Alonso was happy that Aston Martin could score in the final two F1 races to end 2024 season on a positive note before 2025 reset.
Having had a difficult year all-round, Alonso gave Aston Martin something to cheer for in the final two F1 races with points finishes to end the 2024 season on a positive note. It didn’t come easy for the Spaniard as he had to fight to secure the Top 10 finish against good competition.
The likes of Haas, Alpine and Visa Cash App RB pretty much threatened to score more but Alonso stood his ground to score handful points before their 2025 reset. “The last two races finishing in the points for sure is a good thing, end things on a positive note after Austin, Mexico and Brazil where we were point-less,” he said to media.
“It was important to finish on a positive note to score in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. We deserve as well because the team at trackside never stopped working and extract the maximum from the car. I did enjoy the final race, lot of action in the first lap. Yeah, happy to go to 2025 with a little bit of reset of things, learn from all the difficulties and mistakes of 2024 and put those in 2025 project,” summed up Alonso.
Teammate Lance Stroll did not enjoy his run as he eventually ended the second half with no points against his name. It just didn’t work out for him. He did have battles in Abu Dhabi, but it was not enough. “I had a good start to the race and made up four positions on the opening lap, but the car didn’t have the performance to fight for much more,” he said.
“After the pit stops, we just didn’t have the pace to climb all the way back through the traffic into the points, but we made a few positions back passing Doohan and Tsunoda. This wasn’t the season we were hoping for, but we will be pushing hard to come back stronger next season. Thanks to the team for all their hard work over a challenging year,” summed up Stroll.
