Fernando Alonso is happy to see the back of F1 2025 season, with optimism for 2026 where he feels it will take couple of months to figure out everything.
The 2025 F1 season wasn’t so kind for Alonso and Aston Martin. Since their push with the regulation early on, they have struggled to match even the same pace. They have dropped away, but not as much. They have been a formidable midfield team still, with some excellent results.
Despite the inconsistency and general lack of pace, Aston Martin managed to hold itself firm in seventh ahead of multiple teams, losing out to a much faster Williams and slightly quicker Visa Cash App RB team. They had some bad luck along the way which cost them healthy points.
Alonso is happy to see the back of the AMR25, though, which he termed as a big brother of AMR24. “I think we are happy to say goodbye to this year,” he said to media. “Obviously, we have been not as fast as we were hoping. The AMR24 was a tough and challenging season and the AMR25 was just the big brother of that AMR24. We are struggling and we don’t hide from that.
“[At the end] we wanted to finish in the best possible position and help the team on the Constructor Championship. We are looking forward to next year for sure,” summed up Alonso, who is relaxed for 2026 season. He sees good things and a chance for Aston Martin to turn things around.
They have good people and partners in place as well, but he feels the first few months will be key in understanding where they are heading and where they are against its competition. “We switched focus in April, more or less, and I mean, I’m optimistic because it’s a reset of things,” said Alonso. Everyone has the chance to do a better job than the others, we start from scratch.
“So, that’s one thing that offers always hope. We have our new facilities completed now, we have our own windtunnel, we have Honda as an engine supplier and only for us. Aramco, Adrian Newey, so we have some good things to be optimistic. But this is a very competitive sport and everyone is doing a very good job. So we’ll see. I’m relaxed, it’s a long championship ahead.
“I think a lot of things will happen in the first three or four months of the year when you discover the cars and which direction and philosophy everyone took. You learn a lot of things in the first two or three races. So, I think we have the right people and the right facilities and environment to have a good season. So it’s up to us,” summed up Alonso.
