Fernando Alonso admits motivation was down after how Belgian GP panned out, but F1 Hungarian GP turnaround has given them hope.
It was been an up and down season off-late every year for Aston Martin. They are in a building process towards F1 2026 and hiring personnel towards the big change along with upgrades on the infrastructure side. On 2025, they have put in some efforts to at least fight for fifth place.
In a bid to take on Williams, they brought potentially their last big update in Spa-Francorchamps. But they were nowhere in the standings. It seemed all was lost and the updates didn’t work. However, the Hungarian GP has changed its thought process and ideology for the rest of 2025 season.
Both Alonso and Lance Stroll found themselves in the Top 10 for most part of the weekend and they eventually finished fifth and seventh in the pecking order. This instilled fresh confidence. Alonso admitted that they lost motivation after Spa, but the 180 turn in Hungary brought it back.
They are ahead of Sauber now and closing in on Williams. The Dutch GP at Zandvoort will be a key test to pass to kick-start the second half. “Yeah, definitely, big change in one week, big change after Spa, I will not lie, I was worried and concerned for the second part of the year,” said Alonso to media.
“I was a little bit down in motivation, everyone in the team and these seven days, I think it changes 180 degrees, we are looking forward now to the 10 remaining races but at the same time, there is some work to do in understanding why we were competitive. I hope so, I think the first test will be Zandvoort, again maximum downforce, we performed well in the last few years, so hopefully we have both cars in the points.”
