Alexandre Molina – who was seen managing the podium ceremonies – has left F1 to become FIM EBK World Cup series’ new CEO.
Having been in F1 since the year 1997, Molina has served the sport as the director of events for more than two decades. His primary job was with the Formula One Management, but he donned the FIA cap for the brief time as ‘master of ceremonies’.
For that period of getting the podium ceremony done, Molina used the FIA license to work. Having joined FOM in 1997, he wasn’t undertaking the podium ceremonies straightaway, it only started in 2009 and continued until recently.
But now, Molina has left F1 to become the CEO of the FIM-backed EBK World Cup championship from 2023 onward. The new E-Bike racing series is looking to stage inaugural races this year before a full season from 2024 onward.
“EBK is fascinating as it will be high-speed chess mixed with athletic prowess and it comes along at a time when the way we live and move, especially in cities, is changing beyond recognition,” said Molina. “I think E-Bike racing is a sport of our time and my ambition is that it not only thrills fans, but also informs and inspires new and cleaner ways of living.
“The combination of these factors convinced me to bring my experience from Formula 1 to lead a new, breakthrough electric energy sport. We have much to learn, but also much to bring with this new, purposeful sport. The EBK team have done a great job of attracting a cycling partner of global stature in BMC and securing sanctioning by FIM.
“Now we will start adding some meat to the bones with some exciting news about cycling stars who will be joining us in the near future, as well as announcing some of the cities that will be hosting our first races,” summed up Molina.
