Honda’s Alex Marquez took the win in the inaugural MotoGP Virtual Race – #StayAtHomeGP – from Pramac’ Francesco Bagnaia and Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales.

MotoGP joined the likes of F1 and IndyCar with their own ESports event dubbed as ‘Virtual Race with the hashtag of #StayAtHomeGP’, which was broadcasted online where 10 riders from the current grid went racing at Italy’s Mugello circuit.

Three MotoGP outfits had full representation with Honda having Marc & Alex Marquez, Suzuki having Alex Rins & Joan Mir and Tech 3 KTM having Miguel Oliveira and Iker Lecuona. Four other teams fielded a rider each for the first race.

Yamaha had Maverick Vinales with Petronas SRT having Fabio Quartararo, Aprilia having Aleix Esepargaro and Pramac having Francesco Bagnaia. It was the Frenchman on pole for the first Virtual Race from the lone Italian on the grid and Spaniard Vinales.

It was not a great start for the pole-sitter though as Quartararo and Vinales came together at Turn 1, leaving A Marquez and Bagnaia to fight for the lead, where the former headed the pack. Behind, there was a crash for Oliveira as well.

The chaos continued with crashes for Quartararo, Espargaro and Mir. There was more for Vinales and even M Marquez, as Lecuona had multiple falls all-through the six laps of MotoGP Virtual Race. Up ahead, A Marquez continued to lead from Bagania.

The Italian was pressing hard but a late crash set him behind as Honda’s A Marquez took the win in the inaugural MotoGP Virtual Race at Mugello – a fine debut for the Spaniard. Bagnaia was second with Vinales rounding out the podium positions.

Quartararo was fourth from M Marquez, who had just started with ESports racing in this off-period. The Suzuki duo Rins and Mir slotted in sixth and seventh respectively as Oliveira, Lecuona and Espargaro rounded out the Top 10.
