The rider Alex Marquez has successfully completed surgery on his right shoulder, which has limited him during several races since an accident in Barcelona in May. After finishing third at the Malaysian Grand Prix, Marquez announced that he needed a new intervention to resolve the issues arising from the injury suffered in a collision with Pedro Acosta.
In the immediate reaction to the accident, Marquez underwent emergency surgery to stabilize the clavicle, which was fractured in four parts. After his return to racing in Assen in June, he began to experience pain and stiffness in the shoulder, causing swelling. His situation was complicated by two consecutive races that forced him to administer painkillers to compete.
Initially, the rider had scheduled a second surgery for the end of the season, but chose to move the date forward after reviewing his condition in the last races. In a social media post, he explained that he was operated on at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid. In this procedure, osteosynthesis material from the clavicle and hand was removed, as well as an inflamed sac in the shoulder using an arthroscopic technique.
Marquez expresses satisfaction that ‘the operation went without complications’ and is now in the recovery phase at home. However, his absence from the Qatar Grand Prix is confirmed and he hopes to return to competition at the next event in Portugal, scheduled for November 22.
Marquez, who will be part of the official KTM team next year, hopes to be fully recovered for the post-season test in Valencia, where he will test the new 850cc bike on December 1. Additionally, the participation of other riders is also doubtful for the Qatar event, including Jorge Martin and Raul Fernandez. If Aldeguer does not recover in time, Gresini Racing could be left without full-time riders, although they might continue to count on Iker Lecuona.
Meanwhile, Honda has not ruled out the participation of Joan Mir in Doha, despite his visual problems and dizziness that resurfaced at the Sepang circuit. Likewise, the Yamaha duo, Alex Rins and Fabio Quartararo, and Pramac riders Jack Miller and Toprak Razgatlioglu, will also be absent, with Yamaha’s decision not to move their team to Qatar due to the current conflict in the region.
