Withdrawal of Álex Márquez from the Czech Grand Prix of MotoGP

Álex Márquez, rider of Gresini Racing, will not participate in the races of the Czech Grand Prix of MotoGP, taking place this weekend in Brno. This decision comes after a recovery period following a violent accident he suffered just over a month ago in Barcelona.

The Spanish rider had achieved an acceptable qualifying time for the Brno circuit, placing 14th on the grid. Although this position does not correspond with his usual standards, it was considered an understandable performance given the circumstances he had faced. However, Márquez has decided not to risk competing in the races.

In a brief statement issued by his team, it was confirmed that “Álex Márquez, after consulting with the team and medical staff, has decided to withdraw from the remainder of the Czech Grand Prix, with the aim of continuing his recovery in the best possible way”. Márquez had already indicated that he would approach this competition in an adapted manner, taking it step by step.

After Friday’s activities, Márquez confessed that he was “quite tired but much closer [to the pace] than he expected”. His withdrawal will give him a few additional days to fully recover before the next grand prix that will take place in Assen next weekend.

Additionally, in other post-qualifying news, Toprak Razgatlioglu, rider of Pramac Yamaha, has been sanctioned with a three-position penalty for the infraction of circling slowly over the competition line, obstructing the Tech3 KTM bike of Enea Bastianini from the class. Thus, although they had qualified almost at the end, Razgatlioglu will be relegated to the 19th position on the Sunday starting grid.
