Alex Marquez analyzes an unusual accident during training

Alex Marquez, rider of Gresini Racing, has shared his experience regarding an unusual accident during the training session of the Austria Grand Prix. This incident occurred at the Spielberg circuit, just when the riders began to push for significant times.

Marquez fell to the ground after losing control of his bike, despite having exited the first corner well. The incident prompted a Red Flag, resulting in a limited track time of less than 12 minutes once the session resumed.

Despite the scare, Marquez managed to register a competitive time with his spare bike after the incident. Reflecting on the fall, he explained that a brake problem was the trigger. ‘The brakes here are always on the edge and sometimes they jam. At that moment, the brakes seized a little,’ he commented.

Marquez added that, while doing a wheelie, the situation became complicated: ‘It was the first flying lap of the session, so when the front wheel came back down, everything has to be perfect to avoid falling. At that moment, the brake conditions were a bit strange.’

The rider acknowledged that the fall was unpleasant: ‘It’s not a fall you expect, and your body isn’t prepared for it. But everything is fine.’ In addition to the accident, Marquez also faced an inconvenience during the morning session when a part of his fairing came off and caused him to go off track.

Despite the setbacks, Marquez maintains a positive outlook. ‘It doesn’t matter how the weekend starts, but how it ends. We will try to turn things in our favor,’ he concluded.
