Alex Bowman, driver for Hendrick Motorsports, has been forced to withdraw from his participation in the NASCAR Cup race taking place in Phoenix this weekend due to episodes of vertigo. This decision comes after a thorough medical evaluation that confirmed his condition.
The 32-year-old driver had already experienced complications during the last race at the Circuit of the Americas, where he had to relinquish the steering wheel of his #48 car during the competition, at which point his teammate Myatt Snider took control of the vehicle.
In his absence, Anthony Alfredo will take Bowman’s place behind the wheel of the Hendrick Chevrolet. Alfredo, who already has experience in NASCAR with 43 races under his belt, recently attempted to qualify for the Daytona 500.
Jeff Andrews, president of Hendrick Motorsports, has expressed his support for Bowman, emphasizing that his health is the priority. “We are pleased with the progress he is making, but his health is the most important thing. We understand how he feels, as he is a passionate competitor and wants to race, especially at his home track,” Andrews commented.
Hendrick Motorsports plans to request a medical exemption to ensure that Bowman can maintain his opportunity in the Chase despite this absence. Currently, Bowman is in 36th place in the championship standings, needing to recover points to stay in the race.
