Alexander Albon rated F1 2025 as his best of the lot where he feels he proved everyone that he belonged on the grid against fierce competition.
Even though it didn’t end like it started, Williams’ Albon was pleased with his F1 2025 campaign where he ended up eighth in the drivers’ standings scoring 73 points in all. It is his best result since 2020 and best with the British outfit since return to the sport.
He finished seventh in 2020 when racing with Red Bull, but it has been a tough run with Williams since return. However, the first season with Carlos Sainz alongside him, Albon managed to beat him, even though the Spaniard upped his performance to finish ninth, only 11 points behind.
Albon rates it as his best season in F1 and one where he feels he proved everyone that he belongs on the grid. “Yes, I’ll call it like a mini victory [to finish best of the rest],” he said to media. “I won my midfield championship. So, not quite celebrations of Lando’s. But maybe I’ll open a pocket champagne.
“But I’m very proud of myself to be totally honest, I feel like this year I’ve proved everyone, most people that I’m here to stay, and that I feel like I’ve delivered in being totally honest. And I’m excited for next year, and excited to see what we can do. I can’t wait to get my press kit,” summed up Albon.
When pressed further to explain his thoughts, Albon highlighted that the car has played a role in 2025, but he feels he has stepped up as well and racing against Sainz has only helped improve his game. He acknowledged the change of luck from the start of the year to end, but didn’t think it to be a major problem, while praising the work done by Williams to make a big jump.
“Yes, I would say my best season yet,” continued Albon to media. “In many ways, I feel like, obviously the cars, I think, takes credit to most of that. I feel like I said it before, but I haven’t changed so much my application into this year, but the car and what the guys and girls have done at the factory have made a huge step this year.
“I’ve been with this team for four years now and this has been clearly the biggest step out of the four years, from year to year. It’s been enjoyable, it’s been fun to be able to race against some of the top teams in some certain tracks. As you said, towards the end of the year, not ideal, but generally, the pace has been strong.
“Myself, I’ve made a couple of mistakes in Vegas and Baku stand out to me, but then the other ones have just been not going my way, just what it was like for Carlos at the beginning of the year. That’s it, really. I would say I’m just very proud of the team, because I feel like each year we’ve been making steps forward, but it just seems to be that things are starting to click now and as a team, as a unit, we seem to be dialling in.
“I’ve said it before, but the gap from P10 to P5 is smaller than the gap to P5 to P1, or not even P5 to P1, P5 to P4. We’ve still got a long road ahead of us, but I’m hoping my podium chances come a little bit sooner rather than later,” summed up Albon.
