Alexander Albon was happy to take two points in F1 Monaco GP, but noted the grand to be too slow and painful which made it hard to focus on.

After struggles in several outings in F1 2024, Williams finally scored two points in Monaco GP that they were so desperate for. Having focused a lot on this season to make an all-round car, the year didn’t start off well for the Grove-based team.

Some crashes set them back on spare parts and held back updates too. The weight problem emerged but on a track like Monaco, it somehow masks such issues. This worked in their favour after a Q3 finish for Albon on Saturday which was crucial step.

On Sunday, it was all about holding the position and despite him being closer to Yuki Tsunoda ahead, there was little for Albon to do than just learn about the rear end of the Visa Cash App RB machine and taking it with his team’s designers.

It was painful as Albon stated despite taking the two points and a slow grand prix like that makes it harder for drivers per se. “You’d rather have a nicer, more exciting race to do it on,” he said to media. “But to be honest with you I take that. For the team that’s good points for us. That gets us off to a start. And it means a lot to us.

“You never like to be pointless. Even just for the morale of the team. So now we’re on the board we can use that as a springboard the rest of the season. [I saw] everything, the rear geometry setting [of Tsunoda’s car]. It’s annoying because he had so much pace. We can all manage like I’m happy to manage but we don’t need to manage this much.

“He was managing so much, I was like, I could get out and drive my Vespa around here. But anyway, that’s how it is. It was so slow. It’s so painful. It’s actually hard to stay focused when you’re going that slowly because you’re just not even near anything. You’re not near any limits.

“I mean, he absolutely cleared off at the end of the race and I was like, we could have done this the whole time! But he decided not to do it. We need to figure out what’s going on [with the tyre change rule under red flag]. I think either that if it’s a lap one red flag, still have a mandatory pitstop in there or something. It worked in our favour to be fair to you, so I won’t complain too much.”
