Alexander Albon pleased with open James Vowles in his Williams F1 tenure, as he is open to re-learn things with Carlos Sainz’s inputs.

Having taken over under Dorilton Capital, Vowles has been quite vocal about the resurgence of Williams in the time to come. To achieve that, there will be hiccups as he notes and they will have to endure some hard years as well. The 2024 F1 season could be counted as one of it.

They had a difficult year where they were forced to change drivers. Logan Sargeant made way to Franco Colapinto but their fortunes didn’t change hugely due to the amount of crashes they endured. The question faith did pop up, but Albon backs Vowles to deliver.

He feels the Brit is open and transparent about where they are. “I think you can see it, though,” started Albon. “In terms of people talking, you’re right, team principals can talk. But I think it’s quite obvious, the setbacks we’ve had this year. We’ve been quite public about it.

“And I think James is very honest with where we are, and he’s showing you the direction and the steps back that we’re having to make in some places to get into a better place for the future. He’s very honest with me as well, he’s very open with me, and we have this open dialogue,” summed up Albon.

One of the big change that Williams will see is the arrival of Sainz in 2025. After his exploits at Ferrari, it is a big catch for the Grove-based outfit. The Spaniard already had a filming day and full day test to give his inputs, which Albon is raring to hear and re-learn things if need be.

“It will be interesting, especially he’s finished P2, qualified P3 in Abu Dhabi, he knows what a good car is like at the track,” said Albon. “For me, I’m leaning a lot on his experience, his knowledge of the Ferrari, and seeing where we can improve.

“Not just the team, but myself as well, I’m there with an open book and willing to learn where we can improve. I think he’s going to re-energise the team and bring a lot to us. It’s also important how we take that information and use it for us and improve ourselves.”
