The Qatari driver of Toyota crossed the finish line with the best time of the day, followed by the trio of Spaniards Pons (Ford), Rome (Toyota) and Sainz (Peugeot)

Fast track and without any navigation, but that gave the first scare for one of the favorites. The twice champion of the Dakar, Nasser Al-Attiyah, suffered a fault to cross the finish line. The Toyota would suffer a small fire that obliged him to be towed by his team-mate, Giniel De Villiers.
