The announcement of the participation of Fernando Alonso in Le Mans went around the world. It is undoubtedly one of the great news that will run through the world of motor during this 2018. It was secret who everybody already knew it. The difficulty of what Fernando Alonso tries to do this year, is very high, but if there is a driver who can get it, that is him.

Toyota is the team with which Alonso will try to attack the second title of the triple crown he wants to achieve. He could not with the Indy last year, Le Mans will be the next step. For the Japanese team, to have Fernando in their team is a real privilege. Toyota  has the great hope to win, once and for all, the great appointment of the WEC calendar. 43 years since Toyota has been participating in the contest and have not yet made their dream come true.

Maybe that’s why the team’s director, Akio Toyoda, wanted to open his deepest feelings to pass that responsibility to the two-time F1 world champion, the letter says:

“I want to drive an LMP1 …”

“I want to compete in Le Mans …”

“I want to win…”

To Fernando Alonso, I thank you from the heart for choosing Toyota as your partner to make your dream of Le Mans a reality.

I am extremely excited that Fernando, who has battled numerous races and seen things that nobody in our team has experienced, is going to drive for Toyota GAZOO Racing.

I think having Fernando at the wheel of a machine from our team will only make our cars better.

I really want to see how much Toyota GAZOO Racing will grow when our riders and our team members take what they have learned so far in the resistance and add to what they will gain from Fernando’s experience. The whole team is excited for this opportunity to grow.

Through the challenge of the endurance races of the WEC and between them, the exhausting roads towards the 24 hours of Le Mans, Toyota GAZOO Racing will put all the effort, together with Fernando, to beat the other competitors.

And, on the way to our final goal of providing our customers with ever better cars, I hope we can compete with the same aspirations in our hearts.

We welcome Fernando and, together with Sébastien, Kazuki, Mike, Kamui and José for a total of six drivers, Toyota GAZOO Racing will do everything to reach our goals.

I look forward to seeing everyone’s support for Toyota GAZOO Racing also this season.

Thank you.”

By praise it will not be, and dreams are to fulfill them. Toyota and Alonso set 2018 as the year to make it a reality.
