Steiner proposes the use of AI and permanent stewards after the controversial finish at Silverstone

Guenther Steiner, former director of the Haas team, has called on the FIA to incorporate permanent stewards and increase the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to avoid situations like the acclaimed finish of the British Grand Prix.

The race at Silverstone, which ended with Charles Leclerc of Ferrari winning, was marked by controversy with the safety car deployed in the final laps. Despite expectations of resuming the competition, the drivers crossed the finish line under the safety flag.

In response to the situation, Steiner stated that the FIA should establish a full-time steward system working in a structured plan. The incident occurred when Red Bull driver Max Verstappen crashed on lap 48, necessitating the deployment of the safety car.

This decision caused confusion, as both broadcasters announced that the safety car would enter the pits, but ultimately the race ended under the same conditions. The FIA clarified that the message had been shown in error, as there were not enough laps to complete the lapped cars procedure.

Steiner, in one of his recent comments on _The Red Flags Podcast_, criticized the management of the situation by the race director, arguing that if there had been permanent stewards, they would have helped avoid the mess experienced at Silverstone. ‘With permanent stewards, they could find solutions to these problems,’ he stated.

Additionally, he proposed that the FIA increase the use of AI systems to manage the complex decisions that may arise at the end of a race. ‘It has been a long time without an effective solution after similar mistakes, and implementing technology may be the key to managing complex scenarios,’ Steiner concluded.
