Adrien Fourmaux has expressed his confidence in continuing to compete in the World Rally Championship (WRC) despite the uncertainty surrounding his situation for 2027. This French driver has been aligned with the Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team for the past two years, but the Korean brand has yet to determine its future.

Hyundai has decided not to develop a new vehicle for the technical regulations of WRC27, but has invested in improving a Rally2 car, which could be adapted to compete in the championship’s top category. The president of Hyundai Motorsport, Cyril Abiteboul, stated that the company has three possible paths: moving to a customer racing program, remaining as a manufacturer team, or collaborating with a customer team.

Despite doubts about Hyundai’s future, Fourmaux has stood out as the best driver of the team this season, occupying fifth place in the championship with four podiums and his best points total. In his analysis, he completed 12 of the 13 races in the top seven, with 11 results within the top five.

In an interview at the end of the season in Sardinia, Fourmaux could not clarify his immediate future. ‘You will be seeing me, but I don’t know in which car or with which team. I only know that I will drive,’ he commented.

Fourmaux expressed pride in his season, highlighting the improvements in the vehicle and his ability to compete on various surfaces. However, he acknowledged that the absence of victories affected his standings in the championship. ‘I haven’t achieved a victory, but I am sure that it will come,’ he added.

The scenario is also complicated regarding his possible return to M-Sport-Ford, where he competed from 2020 to 2023. This team has announced a new partnership with Ford that will officially begin in 2028, and it will increase support for M-Sport starting next year. M-Sport plans to operate an improved Ford Fiesta Rally2 car in the next two years.

The team director, Rich Millener, confirmed that Fourmaux is one of the drivers being considered for the future. ‘It wouldn’t be my job if I said he’s not on our list. We haven’t talked to anyone since the last round, as we have been very busy with preparations for Ford’s announcement,’ Millener commented.

With still many moves to be made in the WRC driver market, it remains to be seen how Fourmaux’s future will be defined and whether he can secure a competitive seat for the upcoming season.
