George Russell ended up on top in FP3 of F1 Abu Dhabi GP ahead of the McLaren pair with Lando Norris ahead of Oscar Piastri.

It was a lot smoother FP3 session in F1 Abu Dhabi GP where there were some wide moments but not as much as seen on Friday. The final corner still caused problems for drivers but Turn 1 also joined the party with some wide moments.

Mercedes’ George Russell seemed on point by topping the FP3 standings with a 1m24.418s lap in F1 Abu Dhabi GP as McLaren’s Lando Norris was only 0.095s down on the Brit. His teammate Oscar Piastri slotted in third from Williams’ Alexander Albon.

Neither Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and nor Red Bull’s Max Verstappen could beat the Thai to be fifth and sixth, where the Dutchman had to abort his initial quick lap due to wide moments. The second time around was only good enough for sixth.

Alpine’s Esteban Ocon was seventh from the other Williams of Logan Sargeant with AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda ninth and Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu rounding the Top 10. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez was only 11th from Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was 13th from the first of Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso in 14th from teammate Lance Stroll, with Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas in 16th from Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg and AlphaTauri’s Daniel Ricciardo in 17th and 18th.

Despite his attempts, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz was last and 20th behind Haas’ Kevin Magnussen after the Dane improved on his last attempt. The bump at Turn 3 were downed by the organisers, while the FIA added the note about no overtaking in the pitlane after the moment from Verstappen and Alonso.

“As per article 33.4 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations, drivers are not allowed to drive unnecessarily slowly, that includes stopping a car in the fast lane of the pit lane. Additionally, overtaking is prohibited in the pit exit road unless a car slows with an obvious problem,” it stated.
