Abbi Pulling, the 2024 F1 Academy champion, has expressed her desire to be able to return to being an eight-year-old girl to take advantage of the growing opportunities available to young drivers. At a time when the motorsport world is rapidly transforming, Pulling observes with enthusiasm how the average age of female drivers is constantly decreasing.

At just 21 years old, Pulling achieved the title in this competition exclusive to women, which is equivalent to Formula 4. However, the age of drivers is decreasing. In 2025, for example, the young Joanne Ciconte competed at the age of 16, and Lisa Billard is doing the same this season.

According to a study conducted by Racers Behind the Helmet, the average age of drivers in the F1 Academy has dropped from about 20.6 years in the first season in 2023 to 18.8 years in 2026. Pulling commented: “It’s fantastic to see how the average age is reducing, as this offers more learning opportunities from a young age.”

The British driver has been competing since she was 18 in the W Series, a platform that allowed her to be in front of a large audience. “Now, girls aged 15 or 16 have the opportunity to start their professional careers,” she added. “I wish I had the opportunities they have today, because it’s an exciting time for women in motorsport.”

After her triumph in the F1 Academy, Pulling has continued her career in the GB3 Championship and has taken on the role of rookie driver and simulator for the Nissan Formula E team. “Working with Nissan is essential for my development. I focus on training in the simulator and then on rookie sessions, which are key to gaining experience with the Formula E car,” she highlighted.

With an increasingly promising landscape and helping to pave the way for future generations, Pulling hopes that new talents succeed in a sport still dominated by men.
