A Le Mans legend becomes a mentor in the GT Summer Series

The world of amateur racing is set to receive a significant boost with the addition of Frank Biela, five-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as the “Driver’s Mentor” for the new GT Summer Series (GTSS). This new category, which will kick off its inaugural season at the Hockenheimring next April, aims to address the common issues faced by less experienced drivers.

In a championship where ambitions often exceed skill, and where racing incidents are frequent, the GTSS aims to create a safer and more educational environment for participants. For this reason, the organization has opted for Biela, a respected figure in motorsport, to help manage the dynamics of the championship.

A new approach to mentoring

Stefan Lehner, the series coordinator, explains that Biela’s role will not only be to supervise but also to act as an advisor and coach for the drivers. “The ‘Driver’s Mentor’ will guide drivers in racing situations and in their behavior in the paddock, thus helping to reduce any type of confrontation between competitors,” states Lehner.

Robin Selbach, CEO of Gedlich Racing, adds that Biela is not only one of the best drivers Germany has produced, but is also recognized for his competence and fair attitude on the track. “He is one of the greatest in the history of motorsport, and his calm personality makes him the ideal mentor for novice drivers,” says Selbach.

Biela’s commitment

Frank Biela expresses his excitement for this new chapter: “I am delighted to be able to contribute my experience and make racing in the GT Summer Series even more appealing and fluid. I want to share what I have learned during my professional career to help less experienced drivers develop to their fullest potential.”

Additionally, Biela will be present throughout the season, offering specific coaching sessions on aspects such as starts, overtaking, and the pressure of leading. His aim is to create an environment where drivers feel supported and can learn from every situation.

GT Summer Series 2026 Schedule

The GT Summer Series will begin its inaugural season from April 17 to 19, 2026 at Hockenheimring, followed by other major circuits such as Oschersleben, Nürburgring, Spa-Francorchamps, and back to Hockenheim, among others.
