Bourdais and Moss Lead the Second Selection of the 75 Best Drivers of Sebring

Sébastien Bourdais, one of the most prominent IndyCar champions, and iconic British driver Sir Stirling Moss have been selected to be part of the “Class of 75” drivers group. This elite list recognizes the most successful drivers in the history of the 12 Hours of Sebring, and it will be unveiled in five groups of 15 over the coming months, anticipating the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the renowned race on March 20, 2027.

The creation of this prestigious list has been led by a panel of 10 experts in sports car racing, with the aim of celebrating this significant anniversary. The first 12-hour race at Sebring International Raceway was held on March 15, 1952, and, with only one exception in 1974 due to the global energy crisis, it has been held without interruption ever since.

The 75 selected drivers have been divided into randomly assigned groups of 15. This second selection, announced on September 15, includes a diverse mix of legends from the sports car world:

Highlights of the Second Selection

Michele Alboreto capped his career at Sebring with an overall victory in 2001, driving an Audi R8 for Team Joest. In his debut in 1995, he achieved the best qualification before finishing fourth. He was runner-up in 1996 and won between 1999 and 2001.

Sébastien Bourdais, originally from Le Mans but residing in Florida, has dominated the Sebring circuit with three victories and 11 podiums. After his first participation in 2001, he won in the GT3 class in 2006, and his two overall victories came in 2015 and 2021.

Rinaldo “Dindo” Capello is known for his five overall victories at Sebring, achieved in just nine participations. His racing career started with a third place in 1999, culminating in his last race in 2012.

Briggs Cunningham is remembered as one of the few drivers who participated in the first edition of the race in 1952, accumulating 14 races and three class victories.

On the other hand, Hans Herrmann experienced two extremes at the circuit, with five races achieving podiums and winning twice. Al Holbert, another notable name, achieved overall victories twice on the track, always behind the wheel of a Porsche.

In addition to them, names like Nicolas Lapierre, JJ Lehto, Jan Magnussen, Sir Stirling Moss, and John Paul Jr. have had so many successes at Sebring that they have placed themselves among the best in history.

Looking to the Future

This revelation will continue with the announcement of the third group of 15 legends on November 10, 2026, followed by the fourth group on December 15 and finally the fifth and last group on January 12, 2027, thereby culminating with the complete “Class of 75.”
