Magnificent, dominant, incredible? We’re going to not have more adjective to say what Stoffel Vandoorne is doing. Sixth consecutive pole position, second pole of the season in a qualifying session that has controlled flag to flag.
The session hasn’t started very well for Artem Markelov who saw his car stopped in the turn 3. This cause the red flag when any driver didn’t set any lap time.
When the green flag came back to the Catalan track, Stoffel Vandoorne set the fastest lap of the moment followed by Lynn, Evans, Rossi and Stanaway, before the drivers went to the pits to change his tyres for another stint with new Pirelli tyres.
In the final moments, Gasly managed to improve his grid position taking a third place, behind his teammate, Alex Lynn who improves his lap time to finished second. And the same for the pole sitter, Stoffel Vandoorne who makes an incredible lap time to achieve his sixth consecutive pole position, second pole this year.
This helps the McLaren young driver to be 14 points of gap between himself and Rio Haryanto, who finished eight.
