Hamilton won the 35th pole of his career and fourth this season. With him on the front row will start Rosberg. Ricciardo will start from 3d place.
1. Lewis Hamilton: “The day was a tough one, Nico worked perfectly on the third training session and during qualifying, and I do not know if I can catch him. But in the end I managed to squeeze the maximum out of the car and even more. Before Barcelona we do not know of what the results we can show, but when I see how our team modifies car, preparing it for this weekend, I feel inspired! I am very grateful to the team: before I was never able to show such results. However, the state highway leaves much to be desired, so it was hard work, but I’m very happy that I won the pole. In the past I was not able to win at this track because of various circumstances, but mostly because I was not fast enough. Even today, I initially did not have enough speed, so it is especially nice that I could then add and win qualification. Tomorrow I will do everything in my power to earn more points, and we hope that the race will be successful”.
2. Nico Rosberg: “Of course, I am very upset my result – I do not like to be constantly second after Lewis. But I still drove a good lap, so at this point well made. But in any case everything will be decided tomorrow. Start from the second position, of course, not the best result, but if I can start moving well in the race, I will lead. With this view, everything is positive, so we’ll hope for the best”
3. Daniel Ricciardo: “Once again we were the best of the rest [behind Mercedes], but there is nothing particularly enjoy – we are still losing them 1s. I’m pretty good drove my lap, and therefore did not expect such a gap from the leader. I think we made a step forward, but Mercedes has made progress. We were not averse to qualify for this position, but we are in for a lot of work. On the positive side, we know exactly where we are and what positions we can count, but we should try to reduce the backlog of Mercedes”
