Sochi will host the first Formula 1 Grand Prix in Russia next year after motorsport ‘s governing body released a tentative schedule including a record of 22 races.
This schedule will not be finalized until December, but it is expected Sochi race to be held on October 05.
New Jersey and Mexico – where the last race was in 1992 – have been included as provisional races. If they are approved, New Jersey would be June the 1st and Mexico will be the penultimate race, on November 16 .
The record number of GPs is 20, with 19 this year , and the teams have said they do not want a schedule with more than 20 races.
The calendar was unveiled on Friday after the meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Croatia. The Grand Prix of Australia in Melbourne will start the season on March 16, followed by the Malaysian Grand Prix on March 30 and the Grand Prix of Bahrain on April 6 .
After the GP of China, the Korean Grand Prix marked for April 27 is the third race that is provisional , which means it is subject to contract and FIA approval.
There is a growing interest for F1 to return to Mexico with the two Mexican drivers Sergio Perez (McLaren) and newcomer Esteban Gutierrez (Sauber). The race is scheduled to be placed between the United States Grand Prix in Austin on November 9 and the season finale at the Brazilian GP on November 30.
The debut of New Jersey had been marked for this season but was postponed until 2014 due to financial problems.
India has been left out of the calendar for next year, this is part of a major change in the 2015 season, where F1 may see the circuit back in early March. Red Bull fans can enjoy seeing Austria back into the calendar after an absence of 11 years with a race in Spielberg on June 22.
