The director of the Racing Bulls team, Alan Permane, has confirmed that the decision on the driver lineup for the 2027 season will be announced in “a few weeks”. The organization is currently evaluating options between Liam Lawson and Nikola Tsolov to fill the last seat of the VCARB.
With the aim of appointing a teammate for Arvid Lindblad, the young driver has shown true qualities in his debut season and remains a long-term option for Red Bull Racing.
The current driver, Lawson, has successfully recovered from a brief stint with Red Bull Racing in 2025, showing great performance in 2026, despite not being able to complete a full season with a single team. This year, he has had the opportunity again with Red Bull, replacing the injured Isack Hadjar and standing out with his performance in the RB22 model before returning to his usual seat.
In a press conference held in Singapore, Permane mentioned that the team is facing a “luxury problem” thanks to these three “fantastic” options, but assured that they are not in a hurry to make a decision. “The moment will come in the next few weeks. We are not rushed. Everyone knows we have two fantastic drivers, and also, Tsolov, who is currently excelling in F2. But three cannot fit into two, so we are taking the necessary time to ensure we find the best combination for next year,” he stated.
With his isolated performance, Lawson seems to have the merits to continue for another year at Racing Bulls. However, the team must consider its main mission: to be a testing ground for drivers with an eye towards future promotion to Red Bull Racing. Therefore, giving the opportunity to the promising F2 star, Tsolov, to race alongside Lindblad could also be a smart decision.
When asked about the criteria for selecting drivers, Permane responded: “There are many factors to consider. The first of all is speed and pace, among other things. We are in a unique situation, as we want to develop young drivers and consider their future progression. So it’s not just about the present, but about what they can achieve in the future.”
