2014 GP3 Series Calendar revealed

GP3 Series organisers have today unveiled the 2014 calendar which will be made up of nine rounds in total, the most in the Series’ history. All rounds have been confirmed to run alongside the Formula 1 World Championship. The calendar features two exciting new venues for GP3: Austria and Russia, whilst the Yas Marina Circuit in the United Arab Emirates will host the season finale for the second consecutive year.

The Series will kick off its fifth season in Barcelona on 09-11 May as the Formula 1 season commences its European campaign. The Red Bull Ring in Austria will follow on 20-22 June before the paddock then travels to Silverstone. Hockenheim and Budapest will run as back-to-back races before the annual summer break.

GP3 will return to action on 22-24 August at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit with Monza two weeks later. More history will be made when the Series will travel to not one, but two events outside of Europe. Sochi in Russia will hold their inaugural race and the honour of an eagerly-anticipated penultimate round on October 10-12. The magnificent Yas Marina Circuit will set the scene for the season finale on 21-23 November.

A total of six pre-season test days will occur: firstly in Estoril on 27-28 March, followed by Jerez on 10-11 May and finally Barcelona on 16-17 April.

GP3 Series CEO Bruno Michel commented: “GP3 is going into its fifth season of existence with three of its champions already racing in Formula 1. I am very pleased to announce that all of this year’s events will be held during a Formula One Grand Prix.

“We have added two new notable F1 circuits to our calendar with Spielberg in Austria and Sochi in Russia bringing this season’s total to nine events – one more than the previous years. For the second time in a row, the season will conclude at the prestigious Yas Marina Circuit. The 2014 GP3 calendar is a fantastic opportunity for all of our young drivers to display their talent in front of the F1 and GP2 paddocks and to learn F1 tracks.”
