King Willem-Alexander to present the trophy to the winner of the Dutch GP of F1 in Zandvoort

The King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands will be in charge of presenting the trophy to the winner of the Dutch Grand Prix, which will take place in Zandvoort from August 21 to 23, 2026. This will be the first time the monarch presents an official award at a sporting event in his country.

Until now, the king and queen Máxima have attended the Grand Prix privately since its return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2021. However, this year will be an exception, as the event bids farewell to the circuit due to changes in the competition calendar.

The management of the Dutch Grand Prix had agreed to a one-year contract extension with the F1 management for 2026, but then decided not to join a rotation system with other European circuits. This means that Zandvoort will fall off the calendar starting in 2027.

Robert van Overdijk, director of the Grand Prix, commented that they wanted to say goodbye at a peak moment, after having two great editions in 2025 and 2026, with great support from fans and the F1 community.

Since its reintroduction, the circuit has seen remarkable victories, including three consecutive wins by local hero Max Verstappen between 2021 and 2023. The McLaren drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, have also won respectively in the 2024 and 2025 editions.

In 2026, the Grand Prix in Zandvoort will again have a weekend with sprint competition, meaning that the drivers will have a unique hour of practice before the competition sessions.
