The laps that followed showed a spectacular battle between the Yamaha, the official Ducati, Danilo Petrucci and Marquez. Rossi, Viñales and Lorenzo alternated overtook each other several times with some risky moves. However, the latter began to lose some pace and fell to the fifth position. The Yamaha and Dovizioso were now in the lead and opened some gap with Petrucci.

Lorenzo and Márquez were finally out of the fight, and fought for the fifth place. Ahead, Dovizioso took second place and opened some gap to Rossi, who was approaching Petrucci. Behind, Álvaro Bautista overtook Marquez and Lorenzo to reach the fifth place, while the Ducati rider fell to the eighth, as he was also beaten by Johann Zarco.

The Ducati opened a gap of seven tenths while Petrucci overtook Rossi and attacked Viñales. The distance was reduced again and Petrucci finally became second. Again, Rossi seemed to be one step below the rest. Dovizioso opened a lead of more than a second over Viñales, who had regained second place.

The World Cup leader was faster than Dovizioso, but he did not have enough time to catch up with him. On the last lap, Cal Crutchlow and Pedrosa touched and fell.
