MP Motorsport has confirmed that French driver Dorian Boccolacci will join the team for his second season. The young driver from Cannes joins the Dutch team after a great series debut last year driving for Trident.

After announcing the signing of Niko Kari, who joined the team coming from Arden, MP Motorsport has confirmed that another young driver will join them coming from another team. In this case, it is Dorian Boccolacci who confirms that he will drive for MP. The 19-year old Frenchman made his series debut in 2017 with Trident and did a really good season.

Boccolacci arrived to the series after finishing the 2016 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 season as runner-up. He had previously raced in Europe F3 and French F4. He made himself known in GP3 thanks to his aggressive driving and his usual presence on the lead group. He finished the season on sixth place, only beaten by Giuliano Alesi and the unbeatable ART quartet. He also finished the season on the best possible way by taking a win on the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi.

Now, the Frenchman joins the team that will make its series debut (taking DAMS place on the grid) and aspires to improve what he acheived in 2017. His only known team mate so far is Kari, but the team said that the third driver will be confirmed within the next few days.

“Joining MP Motorsport for my second GP3 season feels good”, said Boccolacci. “I know they are eager to show well in their debut season. The team brings a lot of experience from Formula 2 and Formula Renault 2.0. With Niko as one of my team mates, I know we can spur each other on to great performances. I’m really looking forward to the season.”

The 2018 GP3 Season, which will be last one on which the series will have this name, will start the 12th of May in Barcelona, where it will be a support race for the F1 Spanish GP.
