Lucas Di Grassi was the fastest in the first free-practice session of Formula E in Marrakesh ahead of both Renault e.dams cars of Nicolas Prost and Sebastien Buemi.

It is the first venue of Formula E in Africa linked with the Cop22 in Marrakech, Morocco. The track is slightly different from all the other Formula E circuit as it is a semi-permanent circuit which also hosts WTCC.

In the first minutes of the session, José Maria Lopez, despite knowing the track quite well, spun at turn 7. A few minutes later, the race went in full course yellow and Loic Duval missed the braking point, before managing to go again. Lots of drivers struggled to get in terms with the track as Loic Duval and Lucas Di Grassi.

With 30 minutes remaining, JeanEric Vergne was leading from Nelson Piquet Jr and Daniel Abt, Lopez being the only driver who had not set a laptime at that point of the session.

The drivers settled for different testing schedules as Felix Rosenqvist claimed the fastest time, Jérôme D’Ambrosio and Oliver Turvey behind him halfway through the session.

In the last third of the session, Renault e.dams proved their speed with Sebastien Buemi and Nicolas Prost going on top of the timing sheets before Rosenqvist managed to get the second fastest time.

In the last minutes, Vergne got second fastest while Sarrazin momentarily stopped his car on track. The track was really busy in the last minutes as every driver except Duval were on track and several drivers tried to set 200% laptimes between yellow flags.

At the chequered flag, Lucas Di Grassi was the fastest with a 1:21.923 ahead of Nicolas Prost and Sebastien Buemi. Vergne, Da Costa, D’Ambrosio, Rosenqvist, Evans, Piquet and Sarrazin completed the top 10.
