Carlin’s Louis Deletraz headed the FIA Formula 2 Championship timesheet on Day 1 of post-season test in Abu Dhabi with Trident’s Niko Kari led the way in GP3.

Fresh from his Haas F1 duties, Deletraz did well in the opening day of the F2 test at Yas Marina Circuit for Carlin, setting the best time of 1m49.984s late in the second session – with the Swiss driver only one to dip in 1m49s bracket.

Deletraz led Russian Time’s Luca Ghiotto (1m50.127s) with Charouz Racing System’s Callum Ilott (1m50.250s) was third from DAMS’ Nicholas Latifi (1m50.317s). The day saw couple of red flags with Arden’s Thomas Laurent and ART’s Nyck de Vries the culprits.

The second session had to be extended after a brief power outage at the circuit. Despite the stoppage from de Vries (1m50.335s), the Dutchman was fifth with Charouz Racing System’s Tatiana Calderon (1m50.361s) doing well in sixth.

DAMS’ Sergio Sette Camara (1m50.449s) was seventh with returning Nobuharu Matsushita (1m50.511s) in eighth for Carlin while Prema’s Sean Gelael (1m50.539s) and MP Motorsport’s Juan Manuel Correa (1m50.587s) rounding the Top 10.

Position 11-20: Nikita Mazepin (ART, 1m50.707s), Mick Schumacher (Prema, 1m50.802s), Ryan Tveter (Trident, 1m51.114s), Anthoine Hubert (MP Motorsport, 1m51.178s), Guanyu Zhou (Russian Time, 1m51.303s), Leonardo Pulcini (Trident, 1m51.575s), Ralf Aron (Campos, 1m51.731s), Ralph Boschung (Arden, 1m51.989s), Marino Sato (Campos, 1m52.220s), Thomas Laurent (Arden, 1m54.172s).

GP3

In the GP3 test, it was Trident’s Kari topping the day with a 1m53.890s with MP Motorpsort’s Jehan Daruvala (1m54.461s) ending up second and Campos’ Sebastian Fernandez (1m54.708s).

Even though the GP3 series is culminating, the drivers is getting to grips with the Pirelli tyres which will be used for the new-for FIA Formula 3 Championship – most of drivers testing the GP3 cars should feature in the F3 series.

Trident’s Devlin Defrancesco (1m54.897s) was fourth from ART’s David Beckmann (1m54.957s) with Japanese F4 champion Yuki Tsunoda (1m55.043s) in his first time in Europe was sixth in the Jenzer Motorsport car.

The British F3 champion Linus Lundqvist (1m55.070s) was seventh in Campos car with Jenzer’s Jannes Fittje (1m55.305s) in eighth followed by MP Motorsport’s Logan Sargeant (1m55.342s) and Trident’s Oscar Piastri (1m55.355s) in the Top 10.
