In the context of National Hispanic Heritage Month, NASCAR Studios, in collaboration with WV Alternative from Wilmer Valderrama and FOX Sports, has released a one-hour documentary that follows NASCAR Cup driver Daniel Suárez on his journey back home for an emotionally historic race weekend in Mexico City.
The documentary premiered on FOX Sports 1 on September 17 and will be available on Tubi TV starting October 17, for markets in the U.S., Mexico, and Latin America. It includes several scheduled replays on FOX Sports 1 in the following days, including on September 18 at 11:00 PM EST and September 19 at 08:00 AM EST.
An unforgettable weekend
During the weekend, the NASCAR Cup and the O’Reilly series (formerly Xfinity) participated in the first international NASCAR race since 1958, held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Suárez competed in both races, experiencing moments of joy and disappointment.
Barry Nugent, Vice President of Development and Original Programming at FOX Sports, highlighted that the most captivating stories in sports are those that go beyond competition. Suárez’s story exemplifies perseverance, sacrifice, and pride in his roots, inspiring many to pursue their dreams.
A journey of overcoming
Suárez, the only driver born outside the U.S. to win a national NASCAR title, narrates his path from Mexico to a promising future in the United States. The documentary explores his experiences not only as a driver but also as an American citizen, encompassing his love for the country and the political tensions between Mexico and the U.S. during the Trump administration.
Additionally, the film revisits key moments from his career, including his victory at the 2026 Coca-Cola 600, while reflecting on the disappointments of the previous year at the same event.
Suárez expresses that returning to Mexico and racing in front of his home crowd was a dream come true, filled with emotions and the pressure of family support and his fans. He concludes with the hope that viewers of the documentary can understand his journey and feel inspired to pursue their own dreams, regardless of where they start.
