Charouz Racing System’s Juan Manuel Correa headed the FIA Formula 2 Championship standings on Day 2 with Trident’s Niko Kari leading GP3 Series pack.
A late surge from Correa of 1m49.958s was enough for the Charouz racer to displace Prema’s Mick Schumacher (1m50.166s) from the top spot to end the day leading in the F2 category with Russian Time’s Luca Ghiotto (1m50.168s) in third.
DAMS’ Sergio Sette Camara (1m50.223s) was fourth from Carlin’s Nobuharu Matsushita (1m50.227s) with Charouz Racing System’s Jack Aitken (1m50.256s) ending up sixth from Day 1 leader Carlin’s Louis Deletraz (1m50.286s).
The Top 10 had MP Motorsport’s Dorian Boccolacci (1m50.394s) in eighth followed by ART’s Nikita Mazepin (1m50.471s) and Trident’s Callum Ilott (1m50.475s) in a trouble-free day with only two red flags for Trident’s Giuliano Alesi and MP Motorsport’s Anthoine Hubert.
Position 11-20: Guanyu Zhou (Russian Time, 1m50.575s), Nyck de Vries (ART, 1m50.582s), Alesi (1m50.657s), Sean Gelael (Prema, 1m50.667s), Nicholas Latifi (DAMS, 1m50.673s), Leonardo Pulcini (Campos, 1m50.685s), Hubert (1m51.116s), Sebastian Fernandez (Campos, 1m51.253s), Marino Sato (Arden, 1m51.539s), Ralf Aron (Arden, 1m51.793s)
The GP3 side of things had two contenders mostly during the day with Kari (1m53.683s) and Campos’ Jehan Daruvala (1m53.689s) trading places – Kari’s morning pace was enough to hand him the top spot.
Daruvala topped the afternoon session but his time during the morning session was still his best albeit only 0.006s behind Kari. MP Motorsport’s Richard Verschoor (1m54.799s) ended up third with Trident’s Logan Sargeant (1m54.983s) fourth.
It was a mix run with the best times divided for the two sessions. Campos’ Linus Lundqvist (1m55.041s) was fifth with Jenzer’s Oscar Piastri (1m55.085s) sixth, closely followed by Trident’s Devlin Defrancesco (1m55.089s).
Jenzer’s Yuki Tsunoda (1m55.177s) was seventh with the rest of the Top 10 saw Campos’ Alex Peroni (1m55.245s) in eighth followed by MP Motorsport’s Lorenzo Colombo (1m55.495s) and ART’s Christian Lundgaard (1m55.535s).
Position 11-20: Ben Hingeley (Charouz, 1m55.665s), Max Fewtrell (ART, 1m55.688s), Robert Shwartzman (Trident, 1m55.801s), Ye Yifei (MP Motorsport, 1m55.826s), Olli Caldwell (Trident, 1m55.829s), Felipe Drugovich (ART, 1m56.070s), Fabio Scherer (Charouz, 1m56.129s), Federico Malvestiti (Jenzer, 1m56.734s), Enaam Ahmed (ART, 1m56.800s).
