Unlucky 7 for Charles Leclerc as he loses pole position in Hungary for not complying with the technical regulations.
The championship leader, who dominated the qualifying session, sees his record of most consecutive pole positions being taken away. When it was discovered he was using a part on his car that did not comply with the technical regulations.
The Monegasque had proclaimed his 7th consecutive pole position of the season. Following the regulation breach, the race stewards had no other option than to disqualify the PREMA driver for breach of Article 9.2 of the FIA Formula 2 Technical Regulations.
Although Leclerc is disqualified from qualifying, he will be allowed to take part in tomorrow’s feature race. He will start from the back of the grid, promoting title rival Oliver Rowland to pole position, with Russian Time’s Artem Markelov in 2nd.
Leclerc himself said he got disqualified for a “small error” and that he doesn’t feel disappointed, but he is certainly looking forward to tomorrow’s race.
Sergio Sette Camara will also move back on the grid, as he gets a 3 place grid penalty for impeding Nicholas Latifi during the qualifying session.
