For the first time of GP2 and GP3 history, both titles were decided on the last week-end of the season in Abu Dhabi, claiming Pierre Gasly and Charles Leclerc as their champions. FormulaRapida.net asked them how they felt after their titles.

It was night time in Abu Dhabi when we met Charles Leclerc, a few hours after his title and his crash and his teammate’s one. Leclerc reminded us the importance of team work in motorsports.

“I think the whole team deserves it. They made a car which has been great during the whole season. More than that, they managed to make me improve as a driver and I think it is also thanks to this that we won the championship. The mechanics have done a crazy job, so did the engineers and the whole team in general.”

As he told us at Monza, Leclerc was glad to have teammates as fast as Albon, Nyck De Vries and Nirei Fukuzumi with whom he could learn from every race.

“We worked very well as teammates, the mood in the team has been great during the whole season and it also helped us to win the championship this year.”

It is with sparkling eyes that Pierre Gasly answered our questions, a few minutes after being crowned GP2 champion in the last race of the season. Deeply moved, he tells us about his championship.

“It is incredible… I don’t really have words to describe my emotions but it’s just fantastic. It has been a very long and tough season, we fought until the end and we never gave up with the team.”

Gasly was also very careful to thank his team for the work they did this year, to thank everyone who supported him this season before emotion took over again.

“For me they have been very… *looks for words* helpful and today there is so much pressure going off… I still don’t really realise what is happening.”
