The Legacy Motor Club (LMC) has announced the promotion of Chais Elaison as the new team lead for vehicle number 42, driven by John Hunter Nemechek. This decision is effective immediately and marks a new chapter in the team’s management.
Elaison, who until now has served as strategy manager and senior performance engineer, expressed gratitude for the support received during his tenure at the club. ‘I have learned a lot working with this group throughout the season, and I am excited to apply this experience to the final races of 2026 and in preparation for 2027,’ he stated.
With an education from Michigan Technological University, Elaison has accumulated experience at Hendrick Motorsports and Trackhouse Racing, being part of the championship-winning teams in 2016 and 2021. His first role as interim team lead was last year at Kansas, where he contributed to a standout result.
Elaison replaces Travis Mack, who has left the organization after managing over 200 NASCAR Cup races, including Daniel Suarez’s first victory at Sonoma Raceway in 2022. The club’s management has thanked Mack for his considerable contributions during a period of significant growth for the organization.
Jimmie Johnson, co-owner of the LMC, stated that promoting internal talent is crucial to the team’s growth philosophy. With only eight races remaining in the season, the team hopes to see how Elaison and his new group can be competitive not only for this year but also in the immediate future.
