Can Öncü has got, on the first of two races in Brno, a win that makes him more leader of the championship, with a one-race gap to Viu, who has been fourth today. Meggle and Masaki complete the podium.
Before the race started, Loran Faber had mechanical issues on his bike and didn’t manage to get to the grid. Moving on to the race, Ai Ogura made it to the lead with a great start. However, Ryusei Yamanaka and Aleix Viu quickly became the leaders. These three riders and champinship leader Can Öncü seemed to be the group that would battle for the win. Local rider Filip Salac retired on these first laps.
Finally, the lead group was composed by eight riders: Ogura, Viu, Yamanaka, Öncü, Poleman, Kazuki Masaki, Matthias Meggle, Walid Soppe and Kevin Orgis, who had done an amazing comeback since last place, where he had started from.
The next race laps have been a battle between the 8 leaders, with overtakes, position changes and some contact. Towards the last third of the race, Orgis lost a bit of pace and lost his chances to fight for the win.
With three laps to go, Ogura made contact with Meggle and crashed. Soppe had to brake to avoid being collected and also lost any option to win.
Finally, Öncü, who was faster than his rivals on the last laps, took his fourth win of the season to make his gap on the standings bigger. Meggle has finished second and gets his first podium of the season. Masaki completes the podium with Viu, fourth, losing many important championship points.
These results leave Öncü with a bigger lead on the championship, with 132 points, followed by Viu with 106 points and Masaki with 101.
