Sauber’s test driver Tatiana Calderon has been handed her maiden Formula 1 test run next week after the Mexico Grand Prix weekend.
The Colombian will drive the 2018 F1 car, the Sauber’s C37 in Mexico on Tuesday, October 30 during the team’s Pirelli tyre test – the last test run for the Italian manufacturer in the 2018 season before the post-2018 two-day test at Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.
This will be Calderon’s first time in a F1 car and the first female driver to test a car after Susie Wolff did with Williams. She will drive the car for Sauber for filming purpose with the team’s 2019 driver Antonio Giovinazzi running in the Pirelli test.
The Swiss team is using the Pirelli test day as an opportunity to complete its filming as well where Calderon can drive for 100 km. The 25-year-old joined Sauber in 2017 as a development driver and stayed with the Swiss team for 2018.
She was promoted to a test driver role this year and has attended many grand prix events outside her GP3 Series run. She is competing for Jenzer Motorsport in the GP3 series – her third year in the F1’s feeder series.
She started with Arden International in 2016 and changed teams to DAMS in 2017. For 2018, she moved to Jenzer with whom she is amid her best season, having scored nine points with the best of sixth at Monza’s sprint race.
