The Silverstone circuit has updated that the decision on the 2020 British GP will be taken by the end of April between them and F1 personnel.

Like it is with the Canadian GP, whose decision will be made by mid-April, the British GP organisers have set an end of April date for a the final call on the 2020 F1 race. The grand prix is scheduled for July 17-19 date at Silverstone circuit.

The situation looks grim at the moment with the COVID-19 outbreak and the cases in the United Kingdom is only rising, where even its Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive. There is still more than four months remaining for the 2020 British GP.

But in terms of logistics and well-being of the fans, the promoters have to take an early call. “Silverstone and Formula 1 remain in close dialogue regarding the ongoing situation and are assessing the feasibility of holding the British GP on July 17-19.

“We fully appreciate that other UK sporting events in July have taken decisions regarding their events, but it is important to highlight that their logistics and sporting arrangements differ from Silverstone’s.

“Therefore, our timeline gives us until the end of April to make a final decision. The safety of our fans, colleagues and the F1 community will be our priority and we will continue to engage with the appropriate authorities,” summed up the statement from Silverstone on British GP.

F1 has already stated that they are looking at 15-18 races for the 2020 season and the latest statements from Mattia Binotto and Helmut Marko revealed that a January 2021 end along with two-day grand prix weekends is being closely discussed.

The FIA also confirmed that a vote will not be required for any changes to come on the 2020 F1 calendar. For now, the season is to start with the Canadian GP in mid-June but the situation remains fluid as Chase Carey pointed out multiple times.
