Sebastian Vettel led a Ferrari 1-2 with Charles Leclerc in FP2 of F1 Brazil GP with Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen third in dry conditions.
It was still cloudy at Interlagos in F1 Brazil GP in FP2 session but it was all-dry running for the teams and the drivers as Ferrari ended up 1-2 with Vettel (1m09.217s) ahead of Leclerc (1m09.238s), while Red Bull’s Verstappen (1m09.351s) rounded out the Top 3.
Vettel had a slight run-in with Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas on track, just after the Finn was on the way of his teammate Lewis Hamilton. He also had an off, while he had Ferrari’s Leclerc in his way when entering the pits at one point in the session.
He finished fourth with a 1m09.373s to be ahead of Hamilton as Haas’ Kevin Magnussen (1m10.143s) was the best of the rest in sixth ahead of Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo (1m10.194s) with Alfa Romeo Racing’s Kimi Raikkonen (1m10.210s) in eighth.
Red Bull’s Alexander Albon (1m10.275s) was only ninth after the Thai racer couldn’t set his quickest time due to traffic, with McLaren’s Carlos Sainz (1m10.310s) rounding the Top 10 ahead of Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg (1m10.325s).
The second session also ended under red flag after FP1, this time due to Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat after a late spin in the same corner where Albon crashed. It looked like an engine failure with fire blowing from the rear of his car. The session wasn’t re-started.
His failure came after teammate Pierre Gasly had an engine issue earlier in the session. Interestingly, the second Brazil GP session started with a red flag due to a crash for Williams’ Robert Kubica and ended under it due to Kvyat’s issue.
It was Toro Rosso’s Gasly (1m10.352s) in 12th despite the engine issues with Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi (1m10.419s) in 13th, who also had a power loss. Toro Rosso’s Kvyat (1m10.424s) was 14th with Racing Point’s Sergio Perez (1m10.443s) 15th.
Haas’ Romain Grosjean (1m10.504s) was 16th with Racing Point’s Lance Stroll (1m10.568s) 17th as McLaren’s Lando Norris (1m10.700s) ended up 18th, after the British racer was unable to set his quick time due to traffic.
At the back, Williams’ George Russell (1m11.818s) finished 19th as teammate Kubica had no time due to his early crash.
